A simple, quick and very tasty chocolate cake that has NEVER failed me!

  • 165g Plain Flour
  • 3 Teaspoons Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 140g Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Treacle
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/4 Pint of Milk
  • 1/4 Pint of Vegetable or Sunflower Oil
  • For the Filling/Icing
  • The first amount is for filling only, the second is if you want to make enough for filling and covering the cake. You may need to add more icing sugar if you feel that it needs to be thickened up. It will be easier to get a smooth icing if you sieve the icing sugar first!
  • 70g / 105g Melted Butter
  • 3 Tablespoons / 4 1/2 Tablespoons Milk
  • 135g / 200g Icing Sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons / 6 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • Optional: 1 Teaspoon / 1 1/2 Teaspoons Vanilla Sugar
