Fruit Cake

  • 1/2 lb self-raising flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 lb raisins
  • currants or sultanas
  • 2 oz candied peel
  • 3 oz dripping
  • lard or butter
  • 1/4 lb caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 pint milk

Step 1

Mix the flour, salt and dripping in a basin.

Step 2

Add the fruit, sugar and peel and mix well together.

Step 3

Beat the egg in a small basin, add the milk and stir them into the other ingredients.

Step 4

Pour the mixture into a greased cake tin and bake in a moderate oven for an hour and a quarter.
