- 100g/4oz softened butter/margarine
- 100g/4oz soft brown sugar
- 1 tbsp golden syrup or honey
- 150g/6oz self raising flour
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 50g/2oz chocolate chips or Smarties

These fantastic brownies are packed with delicious chocolate
- 250g unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 250g good quality dark chocolate, broken into pieces
- 3 medium eggs
- 250g caster sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 150g self-raising flour
- 250g beetroot, boiled until tender, cooled, peeled and either finely chopped or blended smooth (I blended mine into a thick puree)
- 100g chocolate, of any colour, for the decoration
