Short Crust Pastry


Tasty short crust pastry that can be used for sweet or savoury

  • 225g Plain flour
  • 175g Butter
  • 1 Egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp Caster sugar
  • Cold water as required
  • Clingfilm

Step 1

Sieve the flour into a bowl

Step 2

Add the egg yolk, butter and caster sugar into the bowl

Step 3

Mix together using your hands until slightly like bread crumbs

Step 4

Using a tbsp add water to the mixture whilst mixing it in with your hands, until the whole mixture sticks together, (you do not want it sticky, if you get this you have added too much water and will need to add a little bit of flour until it isn't sticky)

Step 5

Wrap in clingfilm and place in the fridge for at least 30 mins before use


Margarine can be used instead of butter
Cook on a low heat such as gas mark 4 to ensure it cooks thoroughly
