Ingredients

  • 3 eggs (save whites for icing)
  • 1 ½ cup butter/shortning
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch soda

Preparation

Step 1

Mix all dry ingredients except soda.

Step 2

Mix soda with buttermilk and set aside.

Step 3

Cream eggs with butter or whichever you choose and add alternately the dry ingredients and buttermilk.

Step 4

Beat well after each addition and then add vanilla.

Step 5

Bake in three layers in 350 degree oven for approximately 30-35 minutes.
