Preparation
Step 1
Roughly chop onion and put in medium sized saucepan. Add minced steak/beef, stock cube, a splash of worcester sauce and enough hot water to cover the contents of the pan. Peel potatoes and set to cook in another pan.
Step 2
Bring contents to the boil then simmer for 15 minutes. Roughly chop mushrooms and add to pan. Simmer for a further 5 minutes.
Step 3
Mash the cooked potatoes with a large knob of butter and a splash of milk.
Step 4
Using a slotteid spoon, lift mince and onions from saucepan and place in an oven-proof dish. Spread contents to cover the bottom of the dish. Spoon equal amounts of mash into the 4 corners of the dish on top of the mince and onions and, using a fork, spread the mash to cover the mince and onions leaving fork lines in the mash.
Step 5
Top with cheese and either return to the oven for 10-15 minutes (or until cheese is browned) or place under the grill until the cheese has browned.
Step 6
Use the juice left in the mince saucepan to make the gravy.
