Preparation
Step 1
Cut the butter into cubes and mix it in with the flour.
Step 2
Beat the egg and slowly mix it in with the flour and butter, saving a little to brush on at the end.
Step 3
Add the sugar and milk. Mix everything to a smooth ball without lumps.
Step 4
Leave to rest under a towel.
While this is resting, grease the cake tin with butter and sprinkle with flour (remove any flour which does not stick to the butter)
Step 5
Roll out the dough (approx 75mm thick) and place it into the cake tin. (save a bit of dough for the top layer)
Step 6
Peel the apples and slice them. Place them on top of the dough in layers, and sprinkle each layer with a cinnamon/sugar mixture.
Step 7
On top of the last layer of apples, place thin strips of dough in a fishnet pattern and brush over the remaining egg.
Step 8
Place in a preheated oven at 150°C and bake for 45mins-1hr. Turn the oven off for the last 15mins.
