Preparation

Step 1

Finely chop the onion and put half in a large bowl.

Step 2

Add the minced beef (or meat of your choice), wholegrain mustard, yeast extract, salt and pepper, egg, 1 tbsp Italian herbs, breadcrumbs, tomato ketchup and brown sauce and mix together with your hands.

Step 3

Cut the mozzarella cheese into small pieces.

Step 4

When the mixture is thoroughly combined make walnut sized meatballs. Push a piece of cheese into the centre of the meatball and form the meatball back around the cheese. Add to the frying pan and fry off slowly. You should be able to get 16-20 meatballs depending on the size you make.

Step 5

Whilst the meatballs are browning cut the mushrooms up and add to the frying pan. Add the rest of the onion to the pan and brown off.

Step 6

Add the passata and the rest of the herbs. Spoon the tomato sauce over the meatballs and simmer until mixture becomes thick and rich.

Step 7

Serve with pasta or spaghetti and garlic bread.
