Preparation

Step 1

Blind bake the pastry case for 10 minutes

Step 2

Saute the pork and beef in a pan with the onions, grated carrot, cloves, concentrated tomato paste and crushed garlic, add the gravy granules and warm water to produce a suitable gravy, optional herbs and spices may be added to your tastes, a hint of chilli would help.

Step 3

Spread a thin layer of this mixture into the base, layer a single tightly packed layer of chips, layer a few pieces of cooked crispy bacon, layer some grated cheese or cheese curds

Step 4

Repeat until the pie is filled and then place the pastry case topping and slit some holes for moisture to escape, bake this for 30 minutes until golden brown.

Alternate the chips for mashed potato for variation.
For a flakier texture use puff pastry for the pastry lid and slit into this several times to encourage further cracking.
