Discover Elizabeth's favourite recipe: Apple Cardamom Cake with Quince Frosting

Hello Elizabeth, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog and what inspired you to start it?

I began my blog in November 2011 as a private online cookery book for myself, friends and family. I'd lost too many favourite recipes due to broken links and ripped notebooks and I wanted a place to store my own recipes and accompanying photographs.

If you could go back in time, what is the one piece of advice you would give your younger self as they started out on your blog?

Quality is better than quantity! When I first started my blog I was churning out poorly written blog posts left right and centre just to build things up. Take your time, it'll build up slowly. Spend time considering photos, accompanying text and properly written recipes.

What is your favorite dish of all time?

Nothing beats a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings!

Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?

My large wooden mortar and pestle. Freshly ground spices make all the difference to the flavour of a dish.

What is your earliest memory involving food?

I remember the first time I tried to boil an egg. I might have been about nine years old and I put the pan of water on to boil with the egg in it, and I left it there and went off to play! The pan boiled dry and the boiled egg burned. I'm probably the only person to have burned a boiled egg!

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?

I'm far too shy in real life to ever appear on a cooking show, I'm afraid!

Which Gourmandize recipe would you recommend? (if none take your fancy add your own and share it with us!)

I would recommend that people try my recently uploaded to Gourmandize apple and cardamom cake with quince frosting. It's delicious and perfect for these colder Autumn days.

Any last words or message for our readers?

Comment on this interview

Nice one Elizabeth - burning a boiled egg takes some beating! I managed to add a thick layer of black sugar residue to the Jam pan this weekend though, so who am I to criticise!
