"I think it (my blog) has definitely helped me so far in terms of job opportunities. I’m fairly sure most people only interview me because they think I’ll bring cake!"

Hello Elizabeth Ryan, so tell us...

When did you start your blog? What inspired you?

I started my blog in February, 2012. I was studying creative and media writing at university and we did a unit about blogging. I remember my tutor said that if we were going to start a blog then it needed to be about something that we loved, otherwise no one would ever read it! So I thought about it, and baking was something that I adored and did a great deal of, so it just made sense. As people starting coming up to me saying how much they enjoyed it I realised what a great thing it was to do.

In your wildest dreams, where is your blog going to take you as it develops?

In my wildest, wildest dreams it would help me to get a career in food writing. That’s the dream really.

How active are you in the blogging community? Have you met any interesting people through your blog or has it brought you to new places?

I would say that I could definitely be more active! I’ve come across other bloggers at certain events like the 'Cake and Bake Show' or at a 'Clandestine Cake Club' meeting, but I know food bloggers have networking events. I think it (my blog) has definitely helped me so far in terms of job opportunities. I’m fairly sure most people only interview me because they think I’ll bring cake!

What is your secret weapon in the kitchen?

A good spatula. Vanilla bean paste. My old-fashioned Weylux weighing scales.

What dish or menu could you not live without?

I couldn’t live without Victoria Sponge Cake. It’s the classic that you compare all other cakes/recipes to, and that always stands the test of time!

What is your earliest memory involving food?

Making cakes in my grandmother’s kitchen. My mother and she taught me how to bake and I’ll always remember the smell of freshly baked cakes.

What chefs do you admire most and why?

I love Mary Berry. I think she’s an inspiration and she knows that people are at the heart of baking.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show, what show would you choose?

''The Great British Bake Off', of course! Although I don’t think I’d like being a contestant because I wouldn’t want the stress to ruin my love of baking.

Which Gourmandize recipe would you recommend? (if none take your fancy, add your own and share it with us!)

That Orange and Semolina Cake looks divine!

Any last words or message for our readers?

Many people find the idea of baking daunting, but if you follow the recipe it’s really the easiest thing in the world! And who cares if it doesn’t look perfect, as long as it tastes good everyone will be happy.

Thank you Elizabeth Ryan for answering our questions and see you soon!
