"Don't worry about keeping up with other bloggers posting schedules. Just because one blog posts a recipe every day doesn't mean that's what you have to do"

Hello Tash, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog and what inspired you to start it?

I began my blog in August 2012. After falling pregnant and having my beautiful little girl (Am I biased in saying that) I sort of rediscovered my love for baking and all things cakey and it was starting to become a bit of an obsession. So I felt like I needed a more solid excuse to be baking cakes and cookies all week. I had been a bit of a blog reading addict before that and so I though 'Hey I could do that' and so I jumped in head first and gave it a go.

If you could go back in time, what is the one piece of advice you would give your younger self as they started out on your blog?

Don't worry about keeping up with other bloggers posting schedules. Just because one blog posts a recipe every day doesn't mean that's what you have to do. It's about quality rather than quantity.

What is your favorite dish of all time?

Cookie Dough, straight from the bowl. Preferably while a batch is already baking in the oven.

Your photos are great, in your opinion what makes a dish beautiful?

Thankyou very much, I'll admit I'm still a bit clueless when it comes to photograph but when I get that photo that I know I love it tends to be down to a combination of lots of natural light and a clean, uncluttered background. I've seen to many photos of obviously beautiful dishes that have been ruined slightly by a rather busy background. I think a food photo should be all about the dish.

Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?

I wouldn't say I have a secret weapon but I have a favourite. My wooden spoon, it gets plenty of use as I don't have a fancy electric mixer that and I'm in love with the mini chefs hat I have for my daughter.

What is your earliest memory involving food?

Baking with my Aunt, who happens to only be 3 months older than myself. I remember us baking in my Grannys kitchen, usually something simple like fairy cakes, and both of us licking the bowl clean while waiting on the cakes to finish baking. That's really where my baking journey began.

Are there any chefs that you admire in particular?

I adore Nigella. I mean who doesn't, It's fantastic watching her talk about her food and knowing that she probably eats all that food on a regular basis. It's comforting to know I'm not the only food lover out there who gets plagued by thoughts of left overs in the fridge and so has to pop down for a bit of a midnight snack.

We love the name of your blog, the Velvet Moon Baker - so poetic. Where did you get the idea from?

Thank you, I actually can't take any credit for the name of the blog. It's all down to the fantastic imagination of my other half. I think we had been brainstorming for a couple of successive nights and I was starting to get to a point where I didn't think I'd be able to come up with a name that I liked and out he popped with 'The Velvet Moon Baker' and I loved it, so it just stuck.

Which Gourmandize recipe would you recommend? (if none take your fancy add your own and share it with us!)

Definitely my Lemon White Chocolate Brownies. These ones took a good few attempts to get because of substituting white chocolate for dark chocolate but they are absolutely divine.
