Supergolden Bakes is a freelance print designer and Art Director, mother of two young children and a blogger! She writes about her misadventures in the kitchen: baking and beyond! And she certainly knows a thing or two about baking. When you see her recipes - you will be licking your computer screens!

Hello Supergolden Bakes, so tell us...

When and how did you decide to start your blog?

I started my blog in December 2012. I had been reading and cooking recipes from food blogs found through Twitter and Pinterest and they inspired me to start my own. Initially it was a way to document and share recipes I made but it evolved into me creating my own recipes and experimenting a lot.

If you could go back in time, what is the one piece of advice you would give your younger self as they started out on your blog?

Not to over think every single recipe and post. And not to get so disappointed when a recipe that was glorious tasting was badly let down by bad photography.

Your photos are fantastic, in your opinion what makes a dish beautiful?

When you see a dish that looks mouthwatering even in a photograph. There's a lot of beautiful blog photography and it usually comes down to balanced composition in terms of colours and shapes, soft natural light and harmonious styling choices. Thankfully most bakes are beautiful to begin with - although large cakes are much harder to photograph than, say, macarons.

What is your earliest memory involving food?

Making melomakarouna (Greek Christmas honey cookies) with my mother. I helped her and my grandmother a lot in the kitchen. I remember licking a lot of whisks!

What is your favorite type of cuisine?

I like a bit of everything. I love Asian dishes but will happily dabble with any recipe that catches my eye. Everything goes! In terms of baking I love American and French recipes - although they are very different in style.

Are there any chefs that you admire in particular?

I like Dan Lepard, Dorie Greenspan, Gesine Bullock-Prado, Bea Vo and Will Torrent but am not sure you can characterise them as chefs - they are more baking heroes. I don't really follow many of the cooking programmes on TV except for the Great British Bake Off.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?

It would have to be Great British Bake Off, though I would only last half an episode! I am not very good at baking under pressure. I am also quite clumsy - would probably make for entertaining viewing. Paul Hollywood and I would very likely butt heads - I can be a bit opinionated.

Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?

My Kitchen Aid. I am not sure how managed before having one. My small Magimix processor is also very useful - I brought this over from Greece.

What Gourmandize recipe would you recommend? (if none take your fancy add your own!)

My recipe for Peanut butter & Soy salted caramel millionaire's shortbread is one of my favourites.

Do you have anything else that you'd like to tell our readers about?
