Hello Vegetarian Kids, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog and what inspired you to start it?

We started it a few years ago because both of our children had made the decision to become vegetarians. I'd done a lot of research to make sure that their nutritional needs were being met and thought it would be good to share this with other parents in the same situation. I also wanted the blog to be a place where we could share other veggie resources and recipes that we found and give our views on some of the products aimed at veggie kids.

What is your favourite dish of all time?

It's got to be pizza with every veggie topping available! One of our favourite family meals though is Tortilla topped beany bake, which is really quick and easy to make and always goes down well.

When did your children decide to become vegetarian - was it a sudden switch or a gradual process?

Neither of my children were ever big meat eaters, and had toyed with becoming vegetarians for a while before my one son made the announcement that he was giving meat up altogether. He was about eight years old at the time. My other son followed suit about 6 months later. I wasn't very surprised that they'd become vegetarians but was quite impressed with how seriously they took it considering their age, cutting out sweets that contained gelatine and refusing to wear leather shoes being some examples. This was entirely their decision as my husband and I weren't vegetarian.

Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?

Not really a secret, but I love my 'Ninja' food processor. It chops, liquidises and blends and lets me hide some of the less popular vegetables in soups, sauces and smoothies!

Are there any chefs that you admire in particular?

I like Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and admire his commitment to bringing back 'real' food. I really enjoyed his series on vegetarian food too, for obvious reasons.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?

Being on TV or radio would be my worst nightmare, so absolutely none!

Thank you Vegetarian Kids for answering our questions and see you soon!
