"If art is the process of creating something that is enjoyed by others… food is most definitely art."

Hello Abby, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog and what inspired you to start it?

For years I have followed and enjoyed various design, travel and food blogs and sites. Since leaving art college a few years ago, I really missed 'making' and 'doing' something creative. I had recently finished a cookery course which I had enjoyed tremendously. I was so proud and excited about things I had learnt to cook and wanted to share them will friends and others who were interested. I put together a very basic blog and began tentatively.

From a very casual start about 10 months ago, I now am starting to develop my blog further, learning lots about design, digital processes, photography and cooking in the process. I love having my very own little chunk of the World Wide Web that I can use as both a creative outlet and a means of sharing things I am interested and excited about with people who want to read about them.

As far as blogs go, it's still quite new, in your wildest dreams, where will it take you as it develops?

Looking back just over the past few months it is amazing to see how much I have learnt and the skills I have developed through blogging. I have learnt about digital jargon and coding that was initially like a completely foreign language to me.

I hope to keep learning and become super skilled and savvy. That would be the dream, to become an amazing chef, photographer and online whizz. If I could travel the world, leisurely eating and drinking my way around it, that wouldn’t be too bad either.

What is your favorite dish of all time?

Impossible! Lots of my happiness food memories and meals are not just about good food but have stayed with me for the amazing company and more often than not, large quantities of lovely wine.

Grilled lobsters on a deserted beach in North Brazil was definitely a VERY happy meal and up there with the best. Mum’s roasts, dad’s barbeques, good Spanish tapas and anything cooked by Ottolenghi are all favorite dishes too.

Your photos are stunning, in your opinion what makes a dish beautiful?

I would love to be able to photograph food really beautifully! I love images that have amazing composition and color But I think the best food photographs are ones that make your mouth water and stomach growl and really capture the food and convey smells and flavors.

Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?

Time and good music.

What is your earliest memory involving food?

Eating copious blueberries and lots of ham. I have vivid memories of bright pink American fruit punch and once eating so many After Eights they came out my nose.

Are there any chefs that you admire in particular?

Yotam Ottolenghi for his combination of flavors and food that looks like works of art. Ottolenghi and Rick Stein for the passion they both convey and likeability factor, I could watch both of these chaps on the telly for hours. I may be biased but I my parents can cook up some of the best food on the planet and my nanny Kathy Gane will always be the Queen of meringues.

You have a great eye for design which you share with us on your blog, do you think that making food can be an artform in itself?

If art is the process of creating something that is enjoyed by others… food is most definitely art.

Which Gourmandize recipe would you recommend? (if none take your fancy add your own and share it with us!)

This mussel recipe is really simple and delicious and tastes like a very happy recent holiday..

Any last words or message for our readers?

Eat well and travel often.
