Hello Lisa, so tell us...

When and how did you decide to start your blog?

I started the blog in 2012. I have always been interested in food and my mum is a great cook so it came naturally to try and emulate her. I wanted to be all things domesticated! (I think you appreciate this more when you don’t have the time to do it because of work). I would fill my social network sites with food pictures and in the end my close friends started to think I had a bit of a problem… I was obsessed with food! This was the main catalyst for starting my blog. I wanted to share my passion for cooking and domesticity with like-minded people and hoped to learn from others along the way too. This is a story/blog about my journey to becoming a ‘domestic goddess’ (not my memoirs).

If you could go back in time, what is the one piece of advice you would give your younger self as they started out on your blog?

Don't get frustrated and down hearted if it all doesn't go perfectly straight away and be more confident in what you have to offer. Make the blog fit in around your life and not the other way around!

Your photos are fantastic, in your opinion what makes a dish beautiful?

Thank you! I think all food can look great, whether rustic and messy or perfectly placed, so long as they’ve been lovingly prepared. One thing I am fussy about is clean sparkling plates! This is a must. Good lighting is also essential, natural daylight is best.

What is your earliest memory involving food?

It’s hard to think. There are two very early memories I have. One is the excitement and joy at sitting down for a Sunday roast at my Grandmothers’ house. The whole family crammed into one room eating off cushions on our laps all hoping for the left over roast potatoes… they were legendary! My Mum always laughs at the time I asked for more curry on my potatoes (meaning gravy, I must have been only a toddler). The second is helping my aunty collect tomatoes from her greenhouse. I loved the warm feeling, fantastic smell, vivid colour and the hairiness of the tomato plants. Tomatoes are still one of my absolute favourites!

What is your favorite type of cuisine?

This is a hard one! For cooking I’d say any Mediterranean or Mexican food is my favourite. It’s the freshness and the spices and herbs that I love most. If we’re talking restaurants then my favourite is possibly classical French. I know I’m always in for a treat if we eat places that specialise in the French classics.

Are there any chefs that you admire in particular?

Both me and my Fiancé LOVE Michel Roux Jnr! It’s on our bucket list to go to Le Gavroche one day. I love how humble he comes across yet really passionate and knowledgeable about food at the same time.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?

If I could choose any show it would probably be Masterchef the professionals. I’m not a chef but in my dream scenario I’d be a contestant on that show. I like the set up and menu challenges, as well as the fantastic restaurants they get to work in. I’d also love the opportunity to be mentored by Michel Roux Jnr.

Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?

I wouldn’t say I have a secret weapon as such but I have a few favourites! My knives must always be sharp and I sharpen them regularly. I also love my Le Creuset cast iron casserole dish as it’s so versatile. Ingredient wise I love filo pastry. I’m pretty good at rustling up tasty mains or desserts that look impressive because filo is great like that.

What Gourmandize recipe would you recommend? (if none take your fancy add your own!)

Talking of filo pastry I’d recommend my filo tarts; perfect for summer, simple but pretty! http://lovelyappetite.com/2013/03/05/strawberry-and-yogurt-filo-basket/

Do you have anything else that you'd like to tell our readers about?

As I've mentioned I'm keen to learn from others too. So if you have any recipe recommendations or tips for me please get in touch!
