- LASAGNE:
- 4tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 onions
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 carrots
- 900g lean minced beef
- 2x400g tomatoes
- 4tbsp tomato puree
- 600ml beef stock
- seasoning
- 24 sheets lasagne
- 100g cheese
- CHEESE SAUCE:
- 150g butter
- 150g plain flour
- 1600ml milk
- 100g cheddar cheese

Preparation
Step 1
Chop the onions and carrot. Crush the garlic.
Make up the beef stock. Grease a 6 litre ovenproof dish.
Grate both lots of cheese, keeping them separate. (Eat a pinch as a tester!)
Step 2
Heat oil in a large pan.
Fry onions, garlic and carrot for 4-5 mins.
Add mince and fry for 3-4 mins until brown.
Step 3
Stir in the tomatoes, tomato puree, stock and seasoning. Cover and simmer for 30 mins.
Step 4
MAKE THE CHEESE SAUCE:
Melt butter in a saucepan.
Add flour and stir for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and GRADUALLY add milk.
Bring to boil, stirring until thick.
Season and add cheddar.
Step 5
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Step 6
In the oven proof dish:
Lay 8 lasagne sheets
Add half the meat sauce
Add a third of the cheese sauce
Step 7
Repeat Step 6.
Then lay remaining 8 lasagne sheets, topping with remaining cheese sauce and the grated cheese.
Step 8
Bake for 45 mins then serve alone or with a side of garlic bread.
