Steak and Ale Pie

Ingredients
- pie filling:
- 1 kg braising steak, cut into matchbox-sized pieces
- 3 tbsp plain flour
- salt and black pepper
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 300ml brown ale
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 onion
- 3 carrots
- 2tsp mixed herbs
- 3 beef oxo cubes
- 1 veg oxo cube
- Pastry:
- 125gplain flour
- pinch of salt
- 55g butter, cubed
- 2-3 tbsp cold water

Preparation
Step 1
mix flour and salt and pepper together and roll beef in flour to coat
Step 2
heat oil in casserole dish on the hob and brown meat in batches.
Step 3
prepare all veg and throw into the pan with all browned beef. add stock cubes, crumbled, and bottle of ale and all other ingredients
Step 4
leave to simmer for 2 hours on a low heat, stirring occasionally
Step 5
prepare pastry by adding all ingredients together until it holds together. set aside in fried wrapped in cling film
Step 6
roll out pastry and blind bake bases for 15 mins. add filling to pies add top, egg wash and bake until pastry is cooked
