"cooking and eating can be great fun, don’t be afraid to try new recipes, taste new things and don’t worry when things go wrong – it happens to us all!"

Hello Roz, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog and what inspired you to start it?

My husband Lee and I decided last September, after we had the most fantastic meal of our lives while we were on honeymoon in the Lake District staying at Simon Rogan’s L’enclume, that we should start writing a blog about where we’ve been and what we've eaten. Eating out and eating well has always been a hobby of ours since we met 10 years ago, so we thought it was time to start sharing our thoughts with others as well!
This idea quickly evolved to also include sharing our own recipes and lots of other food and travel related things that we do.
As the blog evolved I now do most of the writing and my husband contributes by eating a lot of food and giving his opinions!

If you could go back in time, what is the one piece of advice you would give your younger self as they started out on your blog?

I think my biggest tips would be don’t rush into it – do a bit of research about the various blog platforms – they all have their pros and cons, and try and develop a strong theme for your blog to make it stand out.
Secondly once your blog is up and running, try and get involved with the blogging community – read and comment on other blogs and link to social media.

What is your favorite dish of all time?

Oooh that’s so tough to choose.
If we are talking restaurant dishes – it would have to be the guinea fowl dish that we had recently at Northcote in Lancashire - It was sublime!
But for home cooked food you can’t be a great Roast beef, cooked pink with homemade Yorkshire Puds and Roast Potatoes.

Your photos are great, in your opinion what makes a dish beautiful?

I think the great thing about food is how vibrant it looks, with all the different colours and textures. It’s not just well presented Michelin Starred food that can look beautiful, as long as care and passion has gone into making it, this shines through.
Also when taking photos of your food try and vary the type of photos you take; different angles, close ups, the direction the light is coming from– you don’t have to be a photography expert just have a bit of fun with it.

Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?

My husband! He is a chef so all my tips come from him. I guess the other thing would be my precious Kitchen Aid Mixer – it has revolutionized my baking!

What is your earliest memory involving food?

As a child my parents used to take me camping a lot in the South of France for the summer holidays. Thinking of these bring back strong memories of lots of different foods – from the ‘poulet frites’ (roast chicken and chips) takeaways from the campsite to the treats of meals out to some of the local French restaurants where I got my first tastes of confit duck and other great classical French dishes.

Are there any chefs that you admire in particular?

For Lee, his favourite chefs include Simon Rogan, and also Fergus Henderson who is in charge of Michelin Starred St John, in Clerkenwell in London, who’s ethos is ‘nose to tail eating’ which is something that Lee thinks is really great, trying not to waste any bit of the animal whilst cooking, not just using the best cuts.
I am a big fan of Glynn Purnell and Daniel Clifford, both of whose public profiles were raised infinitely through the show Great British Menu.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?

For me I think I would like to be a guest on Saturday Kitchen with the lovely James Martin, and get to sample my food heaven or hell!

You say you set out to sample Michelin starred restaurants, which one has been your favourite so far?

By far and away out favourite ever meal was at L’enclume in Cumbria which now has 2 Michelin stars. We thought it couldn't get better than this, but we have also very recently been to Midsummer House in Cambridge, which ran it very close indeed!
Some more of our favourites include Purnell’s in Birmingham (where we live) and Maze in London.

Any last words or message for our readers?

Just that cooking and eating can be great fun, don’t be afraid to try new recipes, taste new things and don’t worry when things go wrong – it happens to us all!

Thank you Roz for answering our questions and see you soon!
